Financial Information:

Local currency is the Egyptian Pound (EGP or LE). Most of the six banks have ATMs, which take bank cards and major credit cards. Stand-alone ATMs are also available in some hotels as well as the Downtown and Marina areas. All El Gouna banks offer official currency exchange services, but it is advisable to arrive with either US$, UK£, Euros, or travelers checks to simplify money transactions. Please note that most El Gouna restaurants and retailers generally do not accept credit cards, preferring cash transactions in Egyptian pounds.

Communications:

El Gouna offers a wide range of the most up-to-date communications options to keep you connected, informed and entertained. Several hotels are equipped with wireless high-speed internet in the guestrooms or at hot spots on hotel grounds. Throughout the town, the Abu Tig Marina and several favored spots in Downtown are also equipped with WiFi.

Childcare and Primary Education:

El Gouna is home to a variety of pre-, primary and secondary schools. Les Petites International Nursery offers a fun and nurturing environment that will meet any parent’s high standards while the El Gouna International School provides international curriculum for grades K-12.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina has established itself as a pioneer in technology offering a window to the world. As an embassy of the larger institution, the El Gouna Library’s online resources allow access a repository of some 50,000 digital books, collections, and digitalized manuscripts. The library is also home to one of six culturamas in Egypt. A main reading room, private and group study rooms (equipped with PCs), and outdoor courtyard with reading booths welcome patrons. Continuing Education:

El Gouna is home to the John D. Gerhart Field Station of the American University in Cairo. This state-of-the-art field station houses apaul computer room, laboratory, restaurant, and kitchen as well as storage and housing facilities. The center offers continuing education courses (English, computer science, and business-related courses) as well as marine biology courses comprised of field trips and lab experiments. Additionally, the Paul Rahn German-Egyptian Hotel Training School —sponsored by the German Agency for Technical Cooperation—offers a three-year vocational program with courses specific to the hotel industry as well as general subjects including Arabic, English, German, French, computer, math, physical education, and religion.

Medical Services:

El Gouna has a fully-equipped, state-of-the-art hospital that provides 24-hour emergency care as well as in- and out-patient care as well as a hyperbaric chamber for diving emergencies. The hospital has a total of ten clinics staffed by physicians that provide a range of high-quality medical surgery, care and treatment in the fields of dentistry, plastic surgery, pediatrics, ophthalmology, general surgery and intensive care.
